This course is led by Cort Morgan, Potomac's K-12 Chair of the Art Department and Upper School Architecture Teacher

Students are invited to focus closer attention on natural systems and natural adaptations as inspirations for architectural design. We will begin the process by observing and noticing natural structures around us and extend the study to examples of human structural ingenuity, ancient and modern. By the end of the camp, students emerge as more resourceful, technically skilled, and environmentally conscious designers ready to shape the built environment.

Based on their own interests and their understanding of organic and inorganic systems in nature, each student will design and model an original house for a chosen environmental context. This house will be as closely adapted to its setting as possible. Students experience a transformative design journey that bridges the wisdom of the natural world with cutting-edge architectural technology. In this program, students develop a deep appreciation for the three billion years of field tetsing found in organic nature, learning to translate biological structural adaptations into innovative design solutions.

week 2: June 22 - 26
